The essays in pt. 2 were occasioned by a review in the Quarterly review, London, July, 1838 (v. 38, no. 75, p. 114-145) of "Geschichte, lehren und meinungen der Juden, von Peter Beer, Leipzig, 1825" [i.e. 1822, '24] The first and third essays are by Isaac Leeser; the second and fourth by a "professor of Christianity."
